Flash Nonfiction: The Micro Personal Essay

course_writing.jpg

“Flash” nonfiction is a current term for a very old literary form: the brief personal essay. In this course, we will read flash essays for inspiration, and use some unconventional means to find our way to stories we didn’t know we had in us. If you’ve taken this course before, you’re welcome to join again! We will have new readings and prompts. If you’ve never taken a writing course, let this be your first. Together, we will create an atmosphere that is welcoming and fun. This is not a writing workshop, but those who want to share their work will have plenty of chances to do so. Our readings will be drawn from the online journal Brevity (brevitymag.com) and my own collection of favorites. Enrollment limited to 15.
